The Best Pizza in Brighton and Hove
Neapolitan from £9.50, the original vegan pizzeria, wood-fired pizza by the Pavilion and a family-run oven out at Ovingdean: Brighton's best pizza.
By Only Brighton EditorialThe best pizza in Brighton is Neapolitan, and the place most locals go first is Fatto a Mano, which started here in 2015, has three sites across the city and was voted Best Value at the 2026 BRAVO awards. For vegan pizza, Purezza in Kemptown is the original. For a slice with a sea view, Shelter Hall on the seafront has two pizza kitchens, VIP Pizza and Village Pizza Kitchen, and for a proper old-school Italian, Al Duomo by the Royal Pavilion has been going for decades. If you are out east, Wild Flour Pizza in Ovingdean is a family-run wood-fired takeaway worth the bus ride. Prices and times were checked in October 2026.
Fatto a Mano: North Laine, Preston Circus and Hove
Fatto a Mano started in Brighton in 2015 and now has three branches in the city: 25 Gloucester Road in North Laine (BN1 4AQ), 77 London Road at Preston Circus (BN1 4JF) and 65 to 67 Church Road in Hove (BN3 2BD). All three open from noon every day, until 10pm Monday to Thursday, 10.30pm on Friday and Saturday and 9.30pm on Sunday. The dough is proved for at least 24 hours and baked at over 450C, and the September 2026 menu has a marinara at £9.50, a margherita at £11.50 and a diavola at £13.50, with vegan 'nduja and non-gluten dough as options. Note the 12.5% discretionary service charge. It won Best Value at the 2026 BRAVOs, and the Fatto a Mano site has menus for each branch.
Purezza, St James's Street
Purezza opened in Brighton in 2015 with the aim of making the best vegan pizza around, and it now has a site in Camden too. The Brighton restaurant is at 12 St James's Street in Kemptown (BN2 1RE). It opens for dinner most nights and from noon at weekends, and closes on Tuesday. There is pasta, salad and dessert, plus gluten-free pizza. Local reviewers rate the No Diavola and the Funghi e Tartufo.
Shelter Hall, Kings Road Arches
Shelter Hall is the food hall on the seafront at Kings Road Arches (BN1 1NB), and two of its seven kitchens are pizza: VIP Pizza, doing Neapolitan pizza from a family with five generations of pizza-making behind it, and Village Pizza Kitchen, whose original is in Hurstpierpoint and which uses long-proved dough with seasonal Sussex toppings. It opens from 11.30am on weekdays and 11am at weekends, until 11pm most nights and midnight on Friday and Saturday. Handy when half the group wants pizza and the other half wants sushi or a burger, because both are on site.
Al Duomo, Pavilion Buildings
Al Duomo, at 6 to 7 Pavilion Buildings (BN1 1EE) right by the Royal Pavilion, has been cooking in a wood-fired oven since 1979, with in-house sourdough bases. Its terrace looks over the Pavilion Gardens, which makes it one of the nicest places in the city to eat a pizza in the sun. The Quattro Stagioni is the classic order.
Wild Flour Pizza, Ovingdean
Wild Flour Pizza is a family-run, wood-fired pizza business at Greenways in Ovingdean (BN2 7BA), next to the allotments, and it came seventh for best takeaway at the 2026 BRAVOs. You can collect or get delivery, it is card only, and it opens Thursday to Saturday from the afternoon until 9pm. Combine it with a walk on the Downs above Ovingdean or along the undercliff.
More good pizza
Donatello in the Lanes has been family run since the 1990s and is good for big groups; its sister Pinocchio, opposite the Pavilion Gardens, is a dependable pre-theatre stop. Morelli Zorelli in Hove uses a Sardinian sourdough mother dough said to be 150 years old. Rockwater on the Hove seafront does sourdough pizza with views over the Channel. And VIP has a small pizzeria with an Italian deli counter on the Old Steine. The Restaurants Brighton pizza round-up covers a few more out of town.
Pizza tips
Neapolitan pizza is soft in the middle by design: fold it, do not fight it. If you prefer a different style, Al Duomo and Rockwater both do sourdough bases. For takeaway on the beach, order from somewhere near the front, like Shelter Hall, because pizza and a 20-minute walk do not mix. And keep it out of reach of the gulls. Brighton's gulls have no shame, and a margherita is their love language.
