The Best Live Music Venues in Brighton

From a 150 capacity room for new bands to the Dome's pipe organ: where to catch a gig in Brighton, with what is actually on.

The Hope & Ruin.

The best live music venues in Brighton run from tiny to grand: the Green Door Store and the Hope & Ruin for new bands in small rooms, Chalk and Concorde 2 for touring acts and legends on the seafront, The Old Market in Hove for the more eclectic stuff, and Brighton Dome for orchestras, big names and seated shows. Most nights of the week at least one of them has something worth a ticket. Listings below were checked in October 2026; gigs sell out and move, so always check the venue first.

Concorde 2, Madeira Drive

The seafront venue every Brighton music fan has a story about. Concorde 2 on Madeira Drive mixes gigs early in the evening with club nights late, and the next few weeks show the range: Gurriers on 25 October, Grandmaster Flash on 27 October, DJ Yoda on 6 November and The Big Moon on 23 November, all live shows starting around 7pm to 7.30pm. It is a proper sweaty standing room with the sea just outside, which is the whole point. The Concorde 2 diary is updated constantly.

Chalk, Pool Valley

Opposite the pier at 13 Pool Valley, Chalk describes itself as live, loud and independent, and its late October run is a good snapshot: Conway The Machine on 26 October, Transvision Vamp on 28 October and St. Paul and The Broken Bones on 29 October. It is big enough to pull touring acts and small enough that you can still see the band from the bar. Club nights take over after the gigs, so you can make a night of it.

The Green Door Store

If you want to say you saw them first, this is the room. The Green Door Store is a small, scrappy venue for new bands, with Songkick listing a capacity of 150. October 2026 alone had Dice on the 1st, Mould on the 16th and My First Time on the 26th, with tickets mostly in the £13 to £18 range including fees. Expect noise, a sticky floor and at least one band you will be bragging about in two years.

The Hope & Ruin, Queens Road

At 11 Queens Road, the Hope & Ruin is a bar with its own gig room and a kitchen open until 9pm, so you can eat, drink and watch without moving. Coming up: Keg on 26 November, with tickets at £13.75, and Makthaverskan on 3 December. The bar stays open until 2am from Thursday to Saturday, which settles the after party question.

The Old Market, Hove

On Upper Market Street in Hove, The Old Market programmes music next to comedy, theatre and cabaret, and leans towards the interesting rather than the obvious. On 23 October it hosted the New Note Orchestra with the Wham Jam Thank You Ma'am community choir, and it sold out. Keep an eye on its listings for the shows that do not fit anywhere else.

Brighton Dome

The grand old lady. Brighton Dome has three spaces: the Concert Hall, the Corn Exchange and the Studio Theatre. December is a highlight. The Brighton Philharmonic Orchestra plays Antarctica on 6 December, Brighton Festival Chorus joins the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra on 13 December, The Snowman is screened with a live orchestra in the Concert Hall on 19 December, and ORGANOKE, a singalong built around the Concert Hall's pipe organ, is on 18 December. The Purcell Singers do Britten's A Ceremony of Carols in the Corn Exchange on 29 November.

Patterns, the seafront

Better known as a club, Patterns also runs gigs in its upstairs space, which holds 275 standing. It has been putting on nights on the beachfront since 2015. Good for a gig that turns into a dance without having to change venue.

Tips for gig nights

  • Small venues sell out first. If a band you love is playing the Green Door Store or the Hope & Ruin, buy the ticket now.
  • Check door and stage times: many seafront venues clear out early for club nights.
  • Most venues are walkable from Brighton station, apart from The Old Market, which is a short bus ride west into Hove, and Concorde 2, a stroll east along Madeira Drive.
  • Pick up the record afterwards at Resident on Kensington Gardens, open until 6pm Monday to Saturday.
