The Best Brunch in Brighton and Hove

Hash browns worth queuing for, frumpets in Hove and a fire-cooked steak and eggs: where Brighton actually goes for brunch.

The best brunch in Brighton is at Jo & Co on Church Road in Hove, which locals voted Best Brunch at the 2026 BRAVO awards, with Moksha on York Place a very close second and Starfish & Coffee by Queen's Park third. After that, our short list is Oeuf in Hove for eggs Benedict, Mange Tout in North Laine for something French, Embers for steak and eggs off the fire, and Permit Room on East Street for a bacon naan roll that will ruin other bacon sandwiches for you. Opening times were checked in October 2026. The one rule of Brighton brunch: on a sunny Saturday, get there before 10am or bring a book for the queue.

Jo & Co, Church Road, Hove

Jo & Co, at 115 Church Road (BN3 2AF), won Best Brunch and Most Family Friendly at the 2026 BRAVOs. The style is laid-back Antipodean: Jo & Co says its dishes are inspired by trips to Australia and New Zealand, and the produce leans local and organic. The build-your-own pancakes are a hit with kids, and the grown-ups go for Jo's Full or the shakshuka eggs. Brunch runs until 4pm, and there is a bubbles brunch if the week has been that sort of week.

Moksha, York Place

Moksha is a family-run cafe at 4 to 5 York Place (BN1 4GU), a short walk down from the station, and it came second for brunch at the 2026 BRAVOs and won Best Team. It is famous for its hash browns, and rightly so. There is crab Benedict, cocktails, and its own Moksha coffee blend, roasted in Littlehampton. It opens 8am to 4pm on weekdays and 8am to 5pm at weekends, with last food orders an hour before closing. It is walk-in only, so no booking: just turn up and be patient.

Starfish & Coffee, Queen's Park

Starfish & Coffee, at 32 Egremont Place (BN2 0GA) on the corner of Queen's Park, was voted Best Brighton and Hove Cafe at the 2026 BRAVOs and third for brunch. The menu is seasonal and locally sourced, pastries come from the Flour Pot Bakery, and there are brunch cocktails. Try the loaded avo smash, then walk it off round the park.

Oeuf, Third Avenue, Hove

Oeuf, at 8 Third Avenue (BN3 2PX), is a Parisian-style cafe that does breakfast and brunch from 9am to 4pm, seven days a week. It has a whole section of the menu given over to Benedicts, its melt-in-the-middle frumpets have their own fan club, and there is a secret garden out the back. Heads up: Oeuf says it is closed from 19 to 23 October for a refurbishment and reopens on Saturday 24 October.

Mange Tout, Trafalgar Street

Mange Tout, at 81 Trafalgar Street (BN1 4EB) in North Laine, serves brunch every day from 9am to 3pm, French style: omelettes, croques and tartines, with a focus on organic and sustainable ingredients. It turns into a bistro for dinner Thursday to Saturday, with moules, steak frites and a weekly blackboard, so if brunch runs long you can just stay.

Embers, Meeting House Lane

Embers, at 42 Meeting House Lane in the Lanes (BN1 1HB), is better known for dinner and its prize-winning Sunday roast, but it also has a breakfast menu, and it came eighth in the 2026 brunch vote. Order the steak and eggs. It opens at 9am on Saturdays and Sundays and only does evenings in the week, so this is strictly a weekend brunch.

Permit Room, East Street

Dishoom's Permit Room, at 32 East Street (BN1 1HL), does a Bombay cafe-style brunch with spiced chai. The Full Permit is the big plate and the wrestler's naan roll is the move if you only have one hand free. It placed seventh in the BRAVO brunch list.

A few more worth the walk

Nord, at 83 Western Road in Hove, does Scandi rooms and pistachio pancakes. Lost in the Lanes on Nile Street has a bottomless brunch with mimosas, Bellinis or prosecco. Black Mocha at 103 Gloucester Road has been in North Laine since 2014 and does a vegan Garden Breakfast. Trading Post Coffee on Ship Street pairs hot honey halloumi with beans you can take home. And if you just want a full English in a park, East Brighton Cafe in East Brighton Park makes its own samosas and pours Redroaster coffee. All of these appear in the 2026 BRAVO brunch top 20.

How to brunch like a local

Weekends are busy everywhere, and the small places do not take bookings. Go early, go on a weekday if you can, and keep a second choice up your sleeve: Church Road in Hove and the streets around North Laine both have three or four options within five minutes of each other. Most of these places do vegan and veggie versions of their big plates, because this is Brighton and it would be strange not to.
